Janine R. Harrison, M.A., M.F.A., a creative writing instructor and First Friday Wordsmith faculty-advisor at Purdue University Calumet, is both a nonfictionist and a poet. Harrison’s writing history includes a two-year editorial stint for Chicago Advertising & Media trade magazine; writing speeches and other PR materials as media liaison for the Coordination Council for North American Affairs, the unofficial Taiwanese consulate in Chicago; and rewriting and editing Don’t Let the Accent Fool You, biography of Oil Express founder Arthur Lukowski.
Harrison is the recipient of a Sigrid Stark first-place novel-in-progress award and a Post-Tribune contest winner in memoir and tall tales. She has published in the areas of creative nonfiction, poetry, fiction and academic essay, as well as served as a senior editor of Warpland literary journal and section editor of Charles B. Tinkham: Selected Poems. She has also appeared as a featured writer at the Guild Complex in Chicago. Harrison's professional memberships include:
